Thornton Etherington Obituary

Thornton “Butch” Etherington, 80, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2023, after a brief illness. He was born on March 28, 1943, a son of the late Thornton and Louise (Uster) Etherington. Butch was a long time, well known and much loved resident of Collinsburg; and was Catholic by faith. He was an amazing husband, father, Pap, and great pap. Butch retired from WABCO and often shared stories from there over the years. He was a member of the German Club, Slovenian Club, and West Newton VFW. Wherever Butch was, you could be sure he was surrounded by laughter and smiles, a beer in hand; sharing memories of the pool days or his grandchildren and chances are he would ask you if you remembered someone followed up by how you would know them. He is and will always be loved far beyond he could have ever imagined.  Butch is survived by his son, Daniel Etherington (fiancé Kim Durante) of Belle Vernon, a daughter, Donna McNeil (Bobby Smith) of Collinsburg; two grandchildren, Megan Ward and Kevin (Angela) McNeil; four great grandchildren, Justin, Jack, Maverick and Mason; his sister, Darlene (Sandy) Weaver of Rostraver; brothers, Dennis (Susan) Etherington of Martinsburg, West Virginia and Richard (Diane) Etherington of Turtle Creek; and several nieces, nephews and friends that became family over the years. Pap was preceded in death by his parents and his loving wife, Shirley “Dutch” (Blanish) Etherington. To honor his wishes, there will be no visitation.    Arrangements entrusted to the J. William McCauley, Jr. Funeral Home, West Newton.  Condolences may be left at http://www.mccauleyfuneralhome.com.

A celebration of life will be held at 1 pm Saturday, July 8, 2023 at the Collinsburg German Club, 114 Spruce Lane, West Newton PA 15089.
