Thomas L. Penney, 78, of West Newton, died Saturday, June 29, 2024. He was born July 10, 1945 in West Newton, son of the late Fredrick “Fritz” and Sara Mae (Weaver) Penney, Jr. Prior to retirement he was employed by Christy Park Works and recently worked as a security guard. Tom was the oldest living member of the West Newton Volunteer Fire Company. He was one of the founding members of West Newton Ambulance Service, where he served many years as chief, and was one of the first 50 paramedics in Westmoreland County. An avid bowler with multiple 300 games, he was a great Steeler fan. Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Karen (Johns) Penney; sons, Thomas L. Penney, Jr and wife, Michele, and Cameron Penney and wife, Amy; two grandsons, Brandon J. Penney and Brady L. Penney; a sister, Alice Penney; a special great niece, Skyllar Domonkos; other nieces, nephews and cousins; and his faithful companion, Little Bear. Friends will be received 2-4 & 6-8 pm, with a Firemen’s Service at 8 pm, Tuesday at the J. William McCauley, Jr. Funeral Home, 901 Vine Street, West Newton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the West Newton Volunteer Fire Company, 100 Riverside Dr., West Newton PA 15089.
