Sylvia J. Tedrow, 92, of Smithdale, died Monday, January 5, 2026. She was born December 30, 1933 in Smithdale, a daughter of the late George and Pauline (Poprich) Maksim. Prior to retirement she was employed by Elizabeth Forward School District for 30 years. A military wife, she lived in many states over the years and at one point was the elementary school secretary at Camp Lejeune. Sylvia had a big heart always caring abot others and keeping her family together. She enjoyed making homemade candy, crafts, family parties and dancing. Surviving are four children, Denise DiClaudio and husband, Gene, Chuck Tedrow and partner, June Waters, Larry Tedrow and wife, Marsha, and Keith Tedrow and wife, Beth; grandchildren, Daren (Karen) DiClaudio, Savana (Kris) Skau, Dannielle (Wayne) Seanor, Courtney (Anthony) Hancock, Brittney (Jay) Harris, and Kaitlyn (Jake) Rupert; great grandchildren, Anna and Julia DiClaudio, Parker and Sawyer Skau, Carley and Jericca Seanor, Ashley and Landon Hancock, and Alley, Matty, and Dawson Harris; great great grandchildren, Paisley and Watson Huber; and nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brother, Henry G. Maksim; and sisters, Rose March and Marlene Wallace Hall. Friends will be received 6-8 pm Friday at the J. William McCauley, Jr. Funeral Home, 901 Vine St., West Newton, where a Funeral Liturgy will be held at 10 am Saturday. Interment will follow in West Newton Cemetery.
