Richard J. Metz

Richard J. “Rico” Metz, 94, of West Newton, died Wednesday, December 17, 2025.  He was born December 31, 1930, a son of the late Charles and Anna (Tomasi) Metz.  Prior to retirement he owned the Dick Metz Insurance Agency in Belle Vernon, and previously operated a Boron gas station in New Eagle.  A U.S. Army Veteran, he served during the Korean War.  Rico was a member of Holy Family Church, West Newton.  An avid bowler, he was a car enthusiast and enjoyed working on cars.  He and his wife loved to travel, many times on the awards he won from insurance sales.  Surviving are his wife of 70 years, Mary (Luzi) Metz; a sister, Betty Jane Snyder; sisters-in-law, Eileen Hunt and Angel Knopp and husband, Harry; a brother-in-law, Armand Luzi and wife, Patti; and nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Catherine Kelly; and a brother, Frank Metz.  There will be no public visitation.  A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 am Monday in Holy Family Church, 225 N. Second St., West Newton.  Interment will take place in West Newton Cemetery.  The family would like to thank the staff of Sun Crest Hospice.  Memorial Contributions may be made to Holy Family Church.  Arrangements entrusted to the J.
