Marvin “Bud” Sterner of Ruffs Dale passed away at his home, surrounded and comforted by his loving family, on Sunday January 9, 2022. Born May 4, 1940, Marvin was the son of the late Harold and Grayce Sterner. Prior to his retirement from the coal mine, Marvin worked for Eidemiller Incorporated in Bovard. After his retirement, he dedicated his time and enjoyed driving a school bus, always choosing to drive his grandkids routes or their sporting events and field trips. His greatest love was his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Connie, who will miss him dearly, two children, Bud (Pam) Sterner of Ruffs Dale and Amy Gibler of Sutersville. He has five grandchildren that thought the world of him, Kati (Derek), Josh, Jojo, Danny, and Taylor. He had such a large part in all of their upbringings and all of their childhood memories include ‘Pap’. He is also survived by one great grandchild whom he adored, Jayce Allen Walter. Marvin was hard-working and very handy, building his & Connie’s first home. He could fix anything and loved to be outside. In his later years, he enjoyed sitting on his porch listening to the Pittsburgh Pirates on the radio while drinking a cold one or going to the casino with Connie. He loved to tease and joke and continued to until the very end. The more he teased you, the more he liked you. He was the perfect example of a family man and will be forever missed. Friends and family will be received 2-4 and 6-8 pm Thursday at the J. William McCauley Jr. Funeral Home, 901 Vine Street, West Newton, where a funeral service will be held at 11 am Friday. The family would like to thank Excela Home Hospice and nurse Ali. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Excela Home Health & Hospice or the Parkinson’s foundation.
