Loris Ivan Hostnick, 98, of West Newton, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, June 1, 2022. Known fondly as “Lory,” he was born June 17, 1923, and lived in West Newton his entire life. He was the son of the late Andrew and Stella (Neibert) Hostnick, and brother of the late Melvin Hostnick, US Marine who was killed in action at Iwo Jima. Lory served in the army as a Private First Class, Battery D, 104th A.A.A. Automatic Weapons Battalion where he was a machine gunner and rifle marksman, and honorably discharged. Lory retired from the Westinghouse Waltz Mill site as a nuclear components machine specialist in 1984. Following his retirement, Lory and his wife Evelyn traveled extensively throughout the country, visiting every state in the contiguous United States in their RV. They frequently travelled to California and New Mexico to visit family and friends. They also loved to visit Las Vegas to enjoy the food, shows and entertainment. Lory and Evelyn were one of the five founding families of Faith Lutheran Church in West Newton where they both remained lifelong dedicated members. Lory was generous and happy to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He made friends easily and was known for his warm and friendly greetings to everyone he met. He loved working in his garden and was proud of his home-grown tomatoes and was delighted to give them to friends and neighbors. Surviving are his daughter, Carol Sivie and son-in-law, John Sivie, of Agoura Hills, California; grandchildren, Season and Neal Skuro, and 2 great-grandchildren, Sofia and Carson Skuro of Calabasas, California; and Robert and Margaret Walter of Evans, Georgia. In addition to his parents and brother, Lory was preceded in death by his loving wife, Evelyn Hostnick; daughter, Linda (Hostnick) Walter, and grandson, Jonas Sivie. Friends will be received 2-4 & 6-8 pm Thursday at the J. William McCauley, Jr. Funeral Home, 901 Vine Street, West Newton. A funeral service will take place at 11 am Friday at Faith Lutheran Church, 820 Plummer School Road, West Newton. Interment with military honors will follow in West Newton Cemetery.
