Josephine “Jo” Johnson, RN, 81, of West Newton, died Friday, January 10, 2025. She was born April 8, 1943 in Sutersville, a daughter of the late Bill and Mary McCorkle. Josephine graduated from the Greensburg Hospital School of Nursing. She worked at the hospital until their second child came along. Later she worked at the offices of Andy Cerne and then for Drs. Ed and Joy Boone. She enjoyed playing Bingo, and was known to make some trips to the Meadows. Everything in moderation – Thank goodness! She also had some beautiful flower beds in the front and back yards. Her latest passion was collecting gnomes and displaying them on her front porch. For all of the above reasons, she will be greatly missed. Surviving are her spouse of three weeks short of 60 years, Merle “Hop” Johnson; three wonderful children, Diane Mesiarik and husband, Mark, Brian Johnson and wife, Patty, and Ryan Johnson and wife, Julie; her precious grandchildren, Andrew Johnson and wife, Kelly, Khrysta Nogy and Brandon Gorski, Tyler Mesiarik and Sarah Bontrager, Aubrie and Emmie are the children of Ryan and Julie; Andrew and Kelly have a doll of a daughter, Zora Grace; her sister, Janice Territ; her brother, Bob McCorkle and wife, Loretta; and nieces and nephews. This group is the offspring of a wonderful mom, grandma, and great grandma. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a brother, Bill McCorkle. Friends will be received 2-4 & 6-8 m Monday at the J. William McCauley, Jr. Funeral Home, 901 Vine St., West Newton, where a funeral service will be held at 10 am Tuesday.
