James W. McGrew, 97, of Sewickley Township, died Sunday, April 20, 2025. He was born September 19, 1927, son of the late William and Alta (Blackburn) McGrew. Jim was drafted into the Army Air Corps in World War II. After discharge, he entered the University of Pittsburgh on the GI Bill and achieved his metallurgical engineering degree in three years. He remained a lifelong Pitt fan, holding season tickets for 79 years. Jim was employed by US Steel National Tube in McKeesport for 33 years. A devoted member of the Methodist Church of West Newton, he was also Past Master of F & AM Tri county Lodge No. 252. He was extremely family oriented and enjoyed family get-togethers at every possible opportunity. Surviving are three children, William McGrew and wife, Missy, Lisa Ciarlo and husband, Christopher, and Wayne McGrew and wife, Larissa; seven grandchildren, Brittney (Adam) Reay, Megan (Gordon) Bolar, Madison (Nathan) Moyer, Nicholas Ciarlo (Molly), Hallie McGrew, Carter McGrew, and Jameson McGrew; three great grandchildren, Jackson and Parker Reay, and Damaris Moyer; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Ann (Aller) McGrew; and a sister, Jane Cochran. Friends will be received 2-4 & 6-8 pm Wednesday at the J. William McCauley, Jr. Funeral Home, 901 Vine St., West Newton, where a funeral service will be held at 11 am Thursday. Interment with military honors will follow in West Newton Cemetery.
