Betty J. (Vertacnik) Torkar

Betty J. Torkar, 96, of West Newton, died Friday, October 13, 2023.  She was born June 28, 1927, daughter of the late Anton and Sarah (Simmons) Vertacnik.  Betty was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, West Newton.  She had been active at the West Newton Senior Center where she loved to play Bingo and cards.  Prior to retirement she was employed by Yough School District.  Surviving are four children, James Torkar and wife, Kathy, Patricia Tonda and husband, Elmer, Nancy Urick and husband, Peter, and Janet Trout; six grandchildren, Brian Torkar and wife, Jenni Lynn, Jamie Swartz and husband, Douglas, Erin Seigh and husband, Richard, Matthew Brody and wife, Chiara, Jonathan Tonda and wife, Alexis, and Jessica Tonda; and 10 great grandchildren.  In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Matthew Torkar; and brother, Robert Vertacnik.  Friends will be received 3-7 pm Sunday at the J. William McCauley, Jr. Funeral Home, 901 Vine Street, West Newton.  A Funeral Service will be held at 10 am Monday in Christ Lutheran Church, Vine and 4th St., West Newton.  Interment will follow West Newton Cemetery.  The family would like to thank the staff at Woodcrest Senior Living Community and at Independence Hospice.  Condolences may be left at http://www.mccauleyfuneralhome.com.
