Anna Scanga, 92, of West Vandergrift, died Thursday, January 28, 2021. She was born July 13, 1928 in Lago, Cosenza, Italy, a daughter of the late, Vincenzo and Emilia (Coscarelli) Scanga. Anna was a member of St. Gertrude Church and its Rosary Altar Society. A devout Catholic, her faith was very important, with a special devotion to the Rosary. A dedicated wife and mother, she always made sure her family came first. She loved to cook, bake, and watch religious and cooking shows; and was an avid seamstress. Surviving are four children, Mia Scanga, Ralph Scanga, Jr., Patricia Beneccio and husband, Barry, and Frank Scanga and wife, Janine; five grandchildren, Dominick Scanga and wife, Melissa, Chris Scanga, Nick Scanga, Gina Beneccio and Stephanie Riffer; two great granddaughters, Leann and Isabella; two sisters, Filomena Pisani and Joanne Serravalli and husband, Pasquale; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Scanga; daughter, Mary Scanga; grandson, R. Anthony Scanga; brothers, Ralph and Nicola Scanga; and sister, Ann Scanga. As per Anna’s wishes viewing will be private for the immediate family. Relatives and friends may attend her Funeral Mass at 2 pm Wednesday in St. Gertrude Church, 303 Franklin Ave., Vandergrift. Interment will follow in St. Gertrude Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
