Alvin Ghion

Alvin Ghion, 95, of Sutersville, died Tuesday, August 21, 2018.  He was born August 12, 1923 in Sutersville, a son of the late Eugene and Licina (Neri) Ghion.  Prior to retirement he was employed by U S Steel.  A veteran of World War II and the Korean War, he served in the Navy.  Alvin was a life member of the Sutersville Volunteer Fire Department where he served as Fire Chief from 1962-1972, as well as numerous other offices.  Surviving are a daughter, Lisa I. Szczerba (Gary); a son, Mark A, Ghion (Christine); grandchildren, Nicholas (Amanda) and Zachary Szczerba, Rebecca and Jessica Ghion, and Miele Bennett; and a nephew Larry Likar (Georgiana).  He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Irene (Dubinshak) Ghion and twin sons.  Friends will be received 2-4 & 6-8pm Thursday at the J. William McCauley, Jr. Funeral Home, 901 Vine St. West Newton, where a funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday.  Interment with military honors will follow in West Newton Cemetery.  Sutersville Fire Department will hold services at 7 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Sutersville Volunteer Fire Department .Condolences may be left at http://www.mccauleyfuneralhomes.com
