Agnes Cerne Albig, 105, of West Newton died Friday, June 9, 2023 in Easy Living Estates, Hunker. Born on November 22, 1917 in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of the late Andrew Sr. and Agnes Valepic Cerne. Agnes graduated from West Newton High School and the Victoria Modeling School. She was chief operator at the West Newton Bell Telephone Company. Later she worked as the book keeper for Andrew J. Cerne, MD Associates. Agnes was a member of the Christ Lutheran Church of West Newton, volunteered for Meals-On-Wheels, was a member of the Heart Association and worked on the Cancer Drive. She enjoyed gardening, ceramics, needlework, and playing cards. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Q. Albig; brother, Dr. Andrew J. Cerne Jr.; sister-in-law, Olga M. Cerne; stepmother, Mary Gorentz Cerne; nephew, Andrew J. Cerne III; mother-in-law, Florilla W. Albig; father-in-law; Emery Earl Albig Sr.; brother-in-law, E. Earl Albig Jr.; sister-in-law; Marsha W. Albig; sister-in-law, Alberta W. Albig; and brother-in-law, Allan E. Albig. Agnes is survived by her nieces, Peggy Cerne Cross and husband, Robert, Teresa Cerne Fox, Karen Albig Smith, Mary Jane Albig Starr and husband, Jordan, Christine Albig Hommey, Barbara Albig Schurman and husband, John, Nancy Albig Robertson and husband Robert, and her nephew, Brian W. Albig and wife Cheryl. Other surviving members of the family include her stepbrother, Richard Gorentz; stepsister, Flo Gorentz; and many great and great great nieces and nephews. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are entrusted to the J. William McCauley, Jr. Funeral home in West Newton. Any memorial contributions should be made to the charity of choice.
