Rudolph C. Hynek, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones in his Smithton home, on Wednesday, January 11, 2017, after living 86 wonderful years.  He was born October 14, 1930 in Smithton, a son of the late Martin and Mary (Pyrdek) Hynek.  Rudy leaves behind his wife, Catherine “Kitty”; five children, Martin Hynek and wife, Linda, Carol Ciarico and husband, Tony, Chris Mlinek and husband, Bob, Rudy Hynek and wife, Rhonda, and Ann Clark and husband, Larry.  He was the grandfather or “Pap” to 14 grandchildren, and great grandfather or “Jeep” to 13 great grand kids and counting.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brothers, Joe, John, and Martin Hynek, and sister, Stella Gillock.  Rudy was the epitome of a hard worker.  During his lifetime he taught himself carpentry, gardening, welding, and mechanics, and worked at Fox Grocery.  There wasn’t a gadget he couldn’t creatively fix or a splinter he couldn’t expertly remove.  When he wasn’t working, he could be found, sun hat over his face, fly-swatter in hand, lying on the porch swing, probably loudly whistling tunes.  Pap was a constant calm presence of the family.  He was often quiet but always warm and ever-so-slightly mischievous.  He referred to his wife, Kitty, as “Lover Girl” well into their 70’s and was known to tickle kids in church, soliciting sequels from grand kids and unaproving looks of mothers (his daughters).  Rudy was our Dad, our Pap, and our Jeep, and was a wonderful husband.  We hope he is remembered fondly as his life was simple yet purposeful and influential for us all.  Our family will be honoring spirit and celebrating his life from 2-4 & 6-8pm Friday at the J. William McCauley, Jr. Funeral Home, Inc. 901 Vine St. West Newton.  A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 am Saturday in Seven Dolors Church, Yukon.  Burial will follow in St. Timothy Cemetery, Smithton.   Condolences may be left at http://www.mccauleyfuneralhome.com
