Richard Dale “Dick” Barclay, 94, of West Newton, passed away Tuesday, April 4, at his home. He was born March 19, 1923 in Vandergrift, a son of the late Adam and Mary (McAnulty) Barclay. Richard graduated from Washington Twp. H.S., earned a B.S. in physical education and social studies at Slippery Rock Univ. and completed a master's degree at the University of Pittsburgh.  He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and met his wife, Lucille Jean Patten, at Valley Forge Military Hospital. He worked as a teacher/coach at 4 high schools:  Washington Twp., West Newton, Brentwood and Mt. Lebanon. He worked 20 summers as a plant guard at Fisher Body. He was honored to be a Son of the American Revolution of the General St. Clair Chapter. He belonged to the West Newton Lions Club and served as its president for 1 year.  He was a Mason of the 32nd degree in Vandergrift Lodge and a member of the Apollo Elks.  He was a member of the West Newton Moose and served as PA State governor of the Moose.  He earned the Pilgrim Degree, served on the Moose ritual team and was awarded 1st place in international competition as an orator. Richard was a member of the West Newton United Presbyterian Church. He has spent many happy hours playing scat and bingo with his friends at the West Newton Senior Center. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille, who died in 1998; two sisters, Elizabeth Zeigler and Helen Moore; and four brothers, Byron, Henry, James, and Adam Barclay. Surviving are two daughters, Janet Garlits and her husband, Francis, of Monessen, and Joyce Loiseau and her husband, Louis, of Lancaster; two grandchildren, Robert Leister and his wife Jennifer of Baltimore, MD and Cheryl Leister of Maytown; 5 great grandchildren, Amanda, Matthew, Emma, Abigail and Jacob. Friends will be received Friday 2-4 and 6-8pm at the J. William McCauley Jr. Funeral Home, Inc., 901 Vine St., West Newton.  Funeral services will be held at 11am Saturday at the United Presbyterian Church, 4th and Main St., West Newton, with Rev. John Manon officiating.  Interment will follow in West Newton Cemetery.  A Masonic Service will be held at 7:30 pm Friday in the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the West Newton Senior Center, 103 E.
