Mary Hassick, 97, of West Newton, died Thursday, September 14, 2017.  She was born April 10, 1920 in West Newton a daughter of the late George and Zahia (Nahas) Hanna.  Mary was a member of West Newton United Presbyterian Church where she was a former member of the Session and Women’s Group, and very active in the visitations.  She had volunteered at Westmoreland Manor, Westmoreland County Food Bank in Smithton, Rostraver Library, and Meals on Wheels.  Mary loved gardening flowers and vegetables, playing cards and enjoyed cryptoquote puzzles.  Surviving are three children, Denis (Roberta) Hassick of Monroeville, Cheryl (Michael) Emery of Destrehan, LA, and James (Kelly) Hassick of Chester, VA; grandchildren, Pamela (Floyd) LaRue, Wendy Hassick, and Adam and Nathan Hassick; great granddaughter, Ashlie (Dougie) Brooks; great great grandchildren, Jadin and Destini; and sisters –in-law, Esther Hanna of West Newton and Mary Hanna of Mt. Pleasant.  In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Adam Hassick in 1979; and brothers and sisters, Sadie Bercik, John Hanna, Moses Hanna, Peter Hanna, Paul Hanna, Kathryn Daube, David Hanna, and Elias Donald Hanna.  At Mary’s request there will be no visitation or service.  Arrangements entrusted to the J.
