Helen D. Tamasy, 84, of West Newton, passed Tuesday, June 15, 2010, at Redstone Highlands in Greensburg. She was born Sept. 4, 1925, in Gratztown, Pa., the daughter of the late Richard E. and Florence (Roe) Fry. Helen was a longtime member of Holy Family Church of West Newton and a charter member of the Confraternity of Christian Mothers at Holy Family. She became a member of the Catholic Daughters of America in 1954. During her years of service, she held all offices within Court Miriam including regent in 1980. In addition, she served as past regent of the Greensburg Diocesan Office, member of Greensburg Diocesan Committee, district deputy, state chairman of legislation and spiritual enhancement chair. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Barney J. Tamasy Jr.; brothers, Richard and Charles Fry; sister, Jean Gesler; and stepbrothers, Ralph and Victor Roe. Surviving are her sisters, Marjorie Constantine, of Tacoma, Wash., and Marion McKay, of Wyomissing, Pa.; five children, Martin Tamasy and his wife, Sandy, of Irwin, David Tamasy and his wife, Ann Marie, of West Newton, Bernie Tamasy and his wife, Marguerite, of Houston, Texas, Mary Ellen Tamasy and her husband, Timothy Angell, of Evanston, Ill., and Anne Marie Celapino and her husband, Randy, of West Newton; 12 grandchildren, Martin, Alissa, Angie, Linda Jean, Matthew, Megan, David, Tara, Marilee, Randy, LeeAnn and Sara: and one great-grandchild, Jack. Helen's greatest pleasure, after her grandchildren, was spending time at the beach with her family. Friends will be received from 6 to 8pm Thursday, June 17, 2010, and 2 to 4p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the J. WILLIAM MCCAULEY JR. FUNERAL HOME INC., 901 Vine St., West Newton. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at Holy Family Church by the Rev. John T. Sweeney. Interment will follow at West Newton Cemetery. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to St. Emma Monastery, c/o Sister M. Frsanziska Mintus, 1001 Harvey Ave., Greensburg, PA 15601.
