George A. “Bud” Petro, 84 of Sutersville, passed away peacefully, Sunday, April 1, 2018. He was born July 26, 1933 in Isabella. George served his country as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne. He retired from Bucyrus-Erie as a sheet metal worker and US Postal Service as a rural mail carrier. A member of the Herminie Button Box Group, he loved his Slovenian music. Surviving are his daughters, Darlene Petro Koricich of Greensburg and Lorene Petro Thornburg of Littleton, CO; his son, Mark Petro of Marietta, GA; grandchildren, Jessica (PJ) Fitzgerald and great grandchild Ally; Jon (Terri) Koricich and great grandchild, Adilyn; Adam, Sara, and Alan Thornburg; brothers, John, Carl, and James Petro; and sister, Mary Ann Callahan. He leaves behind his loving and faithful companion, Angie, his teacup poodle. He was preceded in death by his wife, Loretta Spitek Petro and a brother, Joseph. Friends will be received 2-4 & 6-8 pm Wednesday at the J. William McCauley, Jr. Funeral Home, 901 Vine St. West Newton. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 am Thursday in Holy Family Church, West Newton. Entombment will follow in Westmoreland County Memorial Park, Greensburg. In lieu of flowers, family requests donations to Sisters of the Divine Redeemer, Elizabeth, PA or the National Rural Letter Carriers Association.
